They announced about Fujifilm Instax Mini 90 Neo Classic Instant Film Camera and released it to market in September 2013. It was just another Instax series camera from Fuji but Instant camera fans had a big interest in this model. There are several reasons for that.
Even since Fuji has started released Instax series camera since 1998 they were just trying to keep things simple and basic. They were slowly adding more features to new camera models but this process was so slow till Mini 90 has showed up. Instax Mini 90 camera has more settings are features than any other previous Instax models.
You know the most Instax cameras look cute but many find these cams doesn't look serious. Look more like toy cameras. This new instant camera has taken a different approach. Fuji Instax Mini 90 has a retro-inspired design which little bit similar to their beautiful X series cameras. You can get either brown+sliver color camera or a black+silver color camera. For some reason brown model is little bit more expensive than the black one evening only difference is color. Anyway there is one thing we all can agree upon. Among all Fuji Instax series cameras out there Instax Mini 90 has the best build quality.
Now lets see what cool features it does have. Flash is pretty good. Better than all other Instax cams out there. It's a high performance flash which will help you to get sharp photos even in low light conditions. Don't expect it to do wonders like light whole areas or 10 meters. But when you take selfie like photos or similar then the flash will help you to optimize exposure.
Your Mini 90 will try to focus everything capture in photo and make everything in photo sharp. But if you use the macro mode then you can whatever within 15 inches from the camera. After little bit of practice you can do really cool photos, specially make the effect called bokeh. If you use landscape mode then camera will focus out of infinity.
Mini 90 has so many photo modes for you to practice. There is a Party Mode which will make both background and subject bright in color. Works really good in night parties where you usually get darker photo prints when you use Polaroid or other instant photo cameras.
The Kids mode is for capture fast moving subjects like kids or animals. Also it work great on still photos in low light conditions or in a cloudy days if you want to take outdoor pics. Anyway again I have to say, Not expect DSLR level quality from this.
Brightness control helps you to do low-key or high-key effect well by controlling the brightness in photo prints. It has 4 options Normal, Bright, Brighter and Dark.
Another interesting thing is Double exposure. This is something popular among Lomography users. It's done by pressing shutter twice creating 2 images in 1 photo print. If you think little bit, you can make some really creative photos prints with this mode.
In Bulb mode shutter stay open while shutter button stay pressed. This happens about 10 seconds and it would capture a light trail.
Mini 90 camera is powered by a Fujifilm NP-45A Li-Ion Battery. It's been discontinued by the manufacture. But you can find original battery from any online store or even from some local camera store. It's a common battery for Fuji cameras. Li-Ion batteries have big advantage over normal rechargeable batteries. You can take lots more photos. A fully charged NP-45A Li-Ion battery let you take about 100 photo prints with this camera. Still it's not a bad idea to have a spare battery with you f you plan to take loads of photo prints.
